TENKARA FISHING - First Time Using a Tenkara Style Fishing Rod. Tenkara. I don't know if I spelled that right, or if I am even saying it right. The important thing here is that you all know what I am talking about. I gave the tankara fishing rod a try. Everything was perfect. Not sure of the traditionalities of tenkara style fishing but it was nice. I worked a double nymph setup most the time. That worked well with the tenkara rod. I don't know formal tenkara casting, no clue at all but I don't like formalities anyway. Found a roll cast was great, lift drop was nice when you can, and slight side or over hand was fine. In short, don't over think the cast. It is a rod with fly line. Just get your fly in there, and don't get hung on trees. I made some observations as I went. Seems the key is all in the rod and leader length. To maximize your fishing seems one would carry multiple lines, or different rods to fish a particular section of stream most efficiently. One can easily make due with one rod and leader. Line hand, I really like using my line hand when I am fly fishing. I am used to feeding and giving line with the line hand. This I found with tenkara is all done with position and rod angle. I like the soft action of tenkara rods. Hard for fish to shake a hook. Compact rods. That is so cool. I can keep this rod anywhere on a fly fishing trip. Be great to salvage a day if one experienced any issues with the fly rod. Tenkara was very engaging, and the play with the fish was great. One I had to run upstream to keep slack out on a bass. Time melted, and soon time to go home. It was nice!
