To be in true spiritual relationship with God, we see by faith, walk by faith, and speak by faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. This blind man was on the side of the road going into Jericho. This road could be the road used in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Whatever the case, just as the man overcame by thieves was left for dead on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, this blind man was ignored on the side of the road begging for help. This was not Blind Bartimeaus. Bartimeaus confrontation was leaving out of Jericho and not coming near to Jericho. But, we should know as Christians, we see people in need going to and leaving from the church of 4 walls. Are we passing the needy by?
The blind man heard noise and asked what was going on. No one was witnessing to him that Jesus was passing by. Even knowing Jesus was a healer, no one stopped to get the Blind man to bring him to Jesus to be healed. Therefore, we have a physical failure of the followers of Christ and a spiritual failure of the followers of Christ. Physically they did not give food, money, clothes or offer shelter to this blind man. Spiritually they did not give mercy or grace to move him to the presence of Jesus for healing. However, once the blind man question was answered that Jesus was passing by, God gave spiritual insight to the physical blind to ask for mercy. Mercy/eleeo receive compassion or pity, stay execution from Jesus, the savior of his people from their sins and the heir to the Davidic covenant who’s kingdom would be established forever. In salvation, we are his and in sovereignty, we are rule by him and serve him. Jesus, Son of David Messianic heir Son of the Living God. In the meaning of David’s name, loving we see the truth of the blind man’s proclamation for mercy to a Savior that is loving. God is love and God is so loving he gave his son that if we call and believe upon his name, we are saved and return as heirs of God to everlasting life that was lost by our sins. Our sins forgiven by his mercy and his grace.
However, the followers of Christ rebuked the blind man. He was rebuked for his blindness considered a sinful condition caused by sin. He was rebuke for his claim to something they felt he should not have. He was rebuke by those who led the followers of Christ forward. However, the blind man cried out often and more louder, Jesus Son of David. Savior and Heir of the loving fulfillment of God’s promise, have mercy on me.
Then Jesus took a stand in his authority and commanded the followers of Christ to do your job and bring unto him all that are heavy laden/overburdened with sin and He will give rest/repose/refreshing and ease. Jesus question to the blind man is to all who recognize what he was sent to do and the power he has in being heir to all the promises of God; Jesus ask what is it are you determined or inclined for him to make or do for you. Our answer to Jesus should be to receive or sight/anablepo, recover our spiritual sight lost due to sin.
4 points of the Blind Man that must be recognized by all believers:
1. When we recognize who Jesus is for our salvation, and confess with our mouth who he is, immediately we are saved with recovered spiritual sight to see the light and walk in the light.
2. Personally follow him. He left both an example and a help meet in the Holy Spirit for us to be like him.
3. Glorify him. He is your salivation. Jesus has redeemed you back to the Father as a son or daughter of God. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
4. When others see your new walk in the light and that you received your sight, they will give Praise unto God.
At the cross, at the cross Where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day!
We are to walk, talk, and live in his light allowing our light to shine so men can see our good works and glorify the father, which is in Heaven.
