Atomic Reporters, together with the Odessa Center for Nonproliferation (OdCNP), and in cooperation with the Swedish Radiation Authority (SSM), held an online press briefing on 27 January 2022 on Decoding the Budapest Memorandum: the 1994 Accord, Ukraine’s Non-Proliferation Path, and Current Tensions.
The briefing featured Dr. Nikolai Sokov (Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation), Dr. Mariana Budjeryn (Project on Managing the Atom at Harvard), and Dr. Polina Sinovets (OdCNP). The panelists addressed the history of Ukraine’s nuclear disarmament, the Budapest Memorandum and its significance for the nuclear non-proliferation regime, as well as its relevance to current tensions between Russia and NATO.
