Kimford Meador, MD, FAAN, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, talks on the gender-specific challenges faced by women with epilepsy. The risks associated with pregnancy for women with epilepsy are well recognized but there are other common gender-specific problems, including catamenial epilepsy, where seizure frequency varies with hormonal pattern fluctuations. Dr Meador also discusses the impacts epilepsy and its treatments can have on contraceptive efficacy and bone density. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
