Mobile network operators have highlighted spectrum constraints, high fuel, electricity and labour costs as well as high costs of mobile devices as factors leading to high communication costs.
In both their presentations a market inquiry into high data costs, Vodacom and MTN told the inquiry into the data services market that data costs would go down faster if spectrum was made available.
MTN says the rand-dollar exchange rates and theft and vandalism of property also add to input costs. Reporter Glorious Sefako-Musi earlier spoke to MTN SA CEO Godfrey Motsa.
