Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai was arrested at his home on Feb 28 morning. The 71-year-old faces two charges of illegal assembly and intimidation. The illegal assembly charge relates to a banned anti-government march in August 2019, while the intimidation charge is linked to a clash with a journalist in 2017. Apple Daily, the newspaper Lai founded, has been a frequent critic of the government. Some local media have reported that the self-made millionaire has been making financial contributions to the pro-democracy movement.
