Electric buses from China’s No. 1 electric automobile manufacturer BYD are making test runs in Bogota in an effort to help the capital city of Colombia alleviate air pollution.
Meanwhile, Higer, the second largest car maker in China, is introducing its hybrid bus technology and products into this Andes country to help mitigate the effects of climate change.

“This hybrid technology has two engines: a diesel engine that works only to generate electricity. It does not drive the bus. The bus has another electric motor moving the bus. When the bus stops, it does so with the electric motor. Energy recovery occurs when the bus is restarted, thus a large percentage of energy savings is realized.”
Studies have indicated that with the introduction of 30,000 hybrid or electric vehicles, 3.3 million tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced in Bogota on annual basis.
