CEDA, Chief Executive, Professor the Hon Stephen Martin discusses the final report in the Australian Water Project (AWP).
Australia's climate is one of the most uncertain in the world and has been consistently punctuated by severe droughts.
The stress test of the recent extremely prolonged drought has highlighted failures in water policy and areas that can be improved. It is now, when water is relatively abundant, that we need to review and plan for the next drought.
The final report, Volume 2, The opportunity of Crisis: A Water Reform Agenda, provides reform agenda recommendations in three key areas, environmental, agricultural and urban water supply.
The AWP is a joint initiative between CEDA, Harvard University and UniWater (a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and Monash University) with the aim of conducting independent analyses into Australia's water shortages and policy solutions.
