In Jeremy Front's radio adaptation of Simon Brett's story "A Doubtful Death," Bill Nighy reprises his role as the charmingly dissolute actor and amateur sleuth Charles Paris. Set against the backdrop of a high-concept drama company's reimagining of Hamlet in Oxford, Charles is less than thrilled with the immersive theater setting, surrounded by puppeteers and mime artists. However, his stint becomes intriguing when the actress playing Ophelia disappears and is later found dead. Skeptical of the initial suicide theory, Charles employs his detective skills to unravel the mystery surrounding her death, navigating through a list of suspects and diving into the murky dynamics of the theater world. The production, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2020, also features Suzanne Burden and Jon Glover, providing a sophisticated blend of mystery and drama laced with theatrical flair.
