Pakistan has ordered nearly 1.73 million undocumented immigrants, primarily Afghan nationals, to leave the country by November 1 or face deportation, Al Jazeera reports.
The move comes amid Pakistan’s claims that Afghan nationals have been involved in attacks within Pakistan, allegedly carrying out 14 of 24 suicide bombings this year.
Afghans who fail to leave by the deadline will face deportation, with Pakistan only allowing entry to Afghans with valid passports and visas from November 1 onwards.
The Afghan embassy in Islamabad called the move “harassment” and stated that more than 1,000 Afghans have been detained in the past two weeks.
