The third mountain loop in my Scotland adventure and actually my second of the day. I'd also say probably my favourite of the four mountain loops I took on, a lot of this goes down to the panoramic views off Stob Dearg.
I parked up in one of the free lay-bys off the A82 and walked roughly half a mile along it (to the next lay-by) to get the road section out the way at the start. From there it was all beautiful Scotland scenery.
Heading up Stob Dearg was the next challenge, passing by the white stand alone cottage, the cottage with the best backdrop ever in my opinion and then came the climb, it wasn't easy in the heat and considering I'd already summited Ben Nevis this morning, but I made it to the top of the ravine without too much trouble, though from here there was another 100m or so to reach the summit of the 1022m Stob Dearg. As mentioned the views from here must rate among some of the best I've come across on my adventures.
After spending a while admiring and having a nibble, the dreaded midges started to get my scent so it was time to move on. I made my way back down to the top of the ravine I'd earlier climbed up and went off the opposite way across the ridge. Next summit was Stob na Doire at 1011m. Amazing views were again taken in on the way to and at the summit here though again, them blasted midges know its a lingering spot too so you can't overstay your welcome.
Onwards I went, passing by the spot I'd later return to for my descent off the mountain, pushing on back up to the 941m of Stob Coire Altruim and further on still to Stob na Broige at 951m, walking a little beyond the summit to admire yet more fantastic views. This time the midges weren't quite so pesky so a little more time was spent, but alas the time came to head down, eventually getting a few moments out the sweltering heat and passing by a stream which I dowsed myself with.
Not much longer and I was back at the van for the end of another awesome adventure here in the Scottish Highlands.
