We are pleased to offer this exceptionally nice Morris Cowley Four Seater Tourer.

The Cowley was first registered on 22 June 1931 in Taunton. The story is the man who originally ordered the car couldn’t pay for it and it remained with supplying dealer Lock’s of Taunton with a mere 100 miles on the clock until purchased in early 1932 by Mr Sidney Lowther.

The Morris, christened’ Lord Nuffield’, was retained by Mr Lowther until 1962 when it was exchanged for a Ford ‘Pop’ as his daughter did not get on with the crash gearbox while learning to drive. All this information is taken from correspondence in the file from Mr Lowther’s son.

Smartly presented in maroon over black, the Cowley’s paintwork is in excellent order. The interior is in similarly good condition having been sympathetically re-trimmed in a complimentary red while all the door cards are still the original Rexine.

The weather equipment is in generally good order with newly trimmed sidescreens. The hood itself does have some minor damage to one of the rear side flaps bub this does not compromise its watertightness. There is rubber matting on the floor.

The brightwork is in good condition while under the bonnet everything is well presented. The tyres appear to be nearly new, save for the spare. There is a fold-down luggage grid at the back of the car.

The engine starts very readily and settles down to a quiet idle. Oil pressure is excellent and the ammeter indicates a healthy charge from the dynamo.

On the road the Morris is a delight to drive with accurate steering, a nice easy gearbox and reasonable brakes. The engine is very flexible and will pull top gear from quite low speeds.

There is an interesting file accompanying the car containing the aforementioned correspondence, a buff log book, MoT history and some bills. There is also an original Owners’ Manual as well as a larger scale photocopy for use in the workshop.

Overall this is a very pleasant touring car which is ‘on the button’, easy to maintain and which will provide the new owner with much enjoyment.
