Los Gigantes is a popular travel resort next to the spectacular cliffs known as the Acantilados de Los Gigantes and these cliffs are a phenomenal rock wall that plunges sheer into the sea. It is located on the west coast of Tenerife.
Los Gigantes is an attractive seaside town made particularly popular for its location next to the Los Gigantes cliffs which are one of Tenerife's major tourist attractions. Los Gigantes resort was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and is a bit quieter and more relaxed than some of the bigger resorts further south.
The town has an attractive marina full of small yachts and is surrounded by shops and restaurants. There is also a small lido. Throughout the town there are plenty of bars and restaurants and lots of opportunities to enjoy fresh fish and local specialities.
The main beach in the town is small and has the natural volcanic black sand of the island (some of the bigger resorts import golden sand from the Sahara for their beaches). From the beach you can see the incredible Los Gigantes cliffs. There are three more spots in the village where you can get good views of the cliffs. One is on the main road to Tamaimo at the Mirador Archipenque, one is above the sports club and one is on the coastal path.
The Los Gigantes cliffs, or cliffs of the giants, are one of the impressive natural sights to see on the island of Tenerife. Although they can be seen from the village and beach they are best seen from a boat to appreciate the sheer size of these cliffs which are 500 to 800 meters high and drop almost sheer down to the ocean. Many of the whale watching tours pass this area of coastline allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the Los Gigantes cliffs at the same time as experiencing the thrill of sighting your first whale in the willd.
