A picture-perfect beach near Lagos is Praia do Camilo, located South of Portugal in Algarve region. A gem, but not hidden. It is highly esteemed among locals, tourists, and travel experts around the world for its secluded and characteristic nature. It is a small beach with great sand, but it is absolutely wonderful. When you come down the steep steps, it looks very small, but through the tunnel at the north end you can access an additional half of the beach. Low tide allows access to both sides of the beach. Although the swimming isn't great, it's a great place to soak up some sun and cool off in the water. This is a great option for a half day or more.

It is one of the most physically beautiful settings one can imagine. There are no words to describe it, not even photos or videos. This is a little slice of paradise. As with any destination near perfection, it is overwhelmed by tourists during summer season. Since it is so popular, parking seems like a pain in the butt. d I'm glad we were able to visit it when it was not so crowded during the month of October.
Keep in mind you have to climb 163 steps back up to get out of the beach!

Some tips if you visit this beach during the summer months: 1) arrive early or choose to visit at the end of the day; 2) bring water and sandwiches (there is only a small snack bar with a few items, and the hilltop restaurant is crowded and expensive); and (3) bring a small umbrella if you want to avoid a dispute with your beach neighbor who, understandably, does not want the sun's rays blocked out on her patch of sand. It's a gem, but it's not hidden.
