Send Musicians To Prison partnered with the "Men Of Valor" prison program in August of 2018 in Nashville, TN. to study The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10)
Over 4 days, we studied the 8 Beatitudes with 50 inmates.
Pastors, Priests, and Educators were invited to teach and guide each study inside a small room of the CCA prison.
The Men of Valor inmates journaled, read, and discussed each of these Beatitudes in group settings.
in addition, we invited a songwriter to each class.
These songwriters were given the inmates journal entries after class, and were asked to write a song about The Beatitude class they attended over the span of one month.
These songs were not heard until the evening of the live event.
These songs are written from the hearts and journal entries of men who have chosen to study The Beatitudes during their time of incarceration.
This was a brave undertaking by everyone involved.
The journey of turning these journal entries in to melodies and lyrics has little do with songs. It has everything to do with empowering the hearts of men who are seeking the teachings of Jesus during their time of incarceration, while celebrating their voice and their journey towards the Cross, Forgiveness, and Freedom.
May this be a reminder that God hears our hearts, no matter our circumstances, for we are not forgotten, and we are loved unconditionally, no matter what!
