استهل نادي القوة الجوية العراقي حملة الدفاع عن اللقب بتحقيق التعادل مع الصفاء اللبناني 0-0 يوم الاثنين على ملعب صيدا البلدي في صيدا، ضمن الجولة الأولى من منافسات المجموعة الثانية لمنطقة غرب آسيا في كأس الاتحاد الآسيوي 2017.
وجاءت أحداث المباراة متكافئة بين الفريقين، حيث تقاسما السيطرة والمحاولات على المرمى ولكن دون أن ينجحا في كسر التعادل السلبي.
ويلتقي في المباراة الثانية ضمن ذات المجموعة يوم الاثنين أيضاً الحد البحريني مع ضيفه الوحدة السوري على ستاد البحرين الوطني في المنامة.
وتقام الجولة الثانية من منافسات المجموعة يوم 6 آذار/مارس المقبل، حيث يلتقي الوحدة مع الصفاء على ملعب صيدا البلدي، في حين يتقابل القوة الجوية مع الحد على ستاد سعود بن عبدالرحمن في الدوحة.
ويتأهل إلى الدور قبل النهائي صاحب المركز الأول في كل مجموعة إلى جانب أفضل فريق يحصل على المركز الثاني.

AFC Cup holders Air Force Club of Iraq began the defence of their title with a 0-0 draw against Lebanon’s Safa in Group B on Monday to stretch their unbeaten run in the continental competition to 10 games.
After a goalless first half at Saida Municipal Stadium, Air Force Club almost took the lead in bizarre fashion when goalkeeper Fahad Talib’s long kick up field bounced over his opposite number Ibrahim El Moussa’s head and up onto the bar as the hour approached.
Talla Ndiaye’s effort down the other end was ruled out for offside soon after, before Air Force Club substitute Thamer Barghash headed against the Safa bar in the final 10 minutes but the deadlock was not to be broken as the sides shared a point apiece in their tournament opener.
In the West and ASEAN Zones, each group winner and the best second-placed club among the three groups (total four teams) will qualify for the zonal semi-finals. A West Zone final will be held to determine the region’s representative for the AFC Cup final. There will also be inter-zone play-offs between the champions of the ASEAN, Central, South and East Zones. The winner of the inter-zone play-offs will then take on the West Zone representative in the final of the AFC Cup.
