Welcome back to Passive Income Pilots! In today’s episode, Ryan and Tait speak with Austin “Strobes” Hulbert, a former F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet pilot. He is also the founder of The Talos Company, which aims to find, acquire, and expand a high-potential business started by an owner who wants to move away from or retire from the business with a solid legacy.
Austin shares a quick overview of life on a carrier and the cultures and subcultures in that environment. Aside from sharing stories from his exciting and high-adrenaline life as an aviation instructor and EMT, he also talks about a pivotal moment when an accident befalls his family.

Austin “Strobes” Hulbert is a former F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet pilot with 2,200 hours of military flight time and more than 250 carrier arrested landings. During his Naval service, Austin deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and flew combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom. Recognized for his superior tactical acumen and leadership, he was selected to instruct newly winged aviators in how to fly the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet aircraft.
Austin left active duty in 2015 and currently serves as a U.S. Naval Reservist in support of natural disaster relief operations. “Strobes” joined the Afterburner team in 2016, and enjoys using his experiences in the military as a combat leader and tactician with the knowledge from his academic studies to help businesses improve their operations and reach new heights by implementing the Flawless Execution Model.
Strobes is a native of San Diego, CA and grew up in Memphis, TN. He graduated with merit from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2005 with a B.S. in Political Science. Strobes earned his M.A. in Security Studies in 2006 from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and his M.B.A. in 2017 from Harvard Business School.
