Magnolia Pink Parchment is a gorgeously fragrant Magnolia zenii hybrid and definitely one of the best scented Magnolias, producing beautiful pinkish scented flowers with a sweet fragrance with citrus notes, so fresh to be almost similar to some detergents used for washing clothes. It is a hardy shrub that can grow to the size of a small tree,up to 4 metres tall (Magnolia zenii can grow up to 11 metres tall). This is a deciduous Magnolia, blooming in early spring (March-April in the northern emipshere) and the leaves are not present when the plant is in bloom, however they are dull green on the upper surface and pale green on the lower surface. The plant is very cold hardy, resisting down to - 15 degrees Celsius and can be grown outdoors in USDA zones 5 to 8 therefore throughout the UK and most countries in temperate and cool climates. It thrives in acidic to neutral soil, moist but well drained and with exposure to full sun, ideally in a sheltered position as the branches are quite thin. I purchased this plant last month so I can't take credit of the beautiful blooms this year, but I thought that my viewers would have been still interested in a video and an opinion about the perfume of this beautifully fragrant Magnolia, the scent is not overpowering and does not spread in the air through the garden, but when you smell the flowers putting your nose in the cup-shaped bloom, the fragrance is truly heavenly. I hope next year to make a follow up video with my own experience and hopefully an even more beautiful blooming.
