After surgery, scar treatment is something that has really improved over the last 10 years. Before, it was, kind of, put tape on it, do soap and water...there wasn’t a whole lot you could do. Silicone sheets, where it’s a sheet of silicone rubber that you leave on the scar, started, maybe, 10 or 12 years ago. And now, there are a lot of silicone gel products that you can wipe them on and they harden and they leave a film of silicone on the scar. You can put them on a couple of times a day. That has really changed the speed that the scar loses its red color and it has really improved the thickness, where scars don’t stand out from the skin. They flush much, much better than they used to.

That said, the human body’s been healing for a long, long time and most people make great scars, assuming that the tissue is treated well at the time of surgery. You know, if you get your neighbor to come over with the hedge clippers to do your surgery...probably not a good scar. But, get a plastic surgeon that’s using fine suture and delicate touch, you should make a good scar anyway. But this helps to guarantee that, helps to improve the process.
