Back in the Black showcases many Black-owned businesses and organizations across the country. Beauty is a booming industry in the Black community, as the amount Black women creating and selling products to meet the unique needs of people of color have risen.
The latest figures show that Black women spend more than half a billion dollars on hair care products every year, and that doesn't include accessories like extensions or wigs. This caused Sharie Wilson and Tonya Thompson to decide to take a chance during the pandemic and launch their healthy hair care system with their company, DreamGirls Hair Care.
The company has reportedly made $2.5 million in sales since its launch in 2020.
