Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish 7' Medium Heavy Spinning Combo is one of the best Walmart catfishing rod and reels.

List of things needed to start catfishing:

1. Rod and Reel: needs to support 20lb test line, 7-8', and med to med-heavy. Recommend "Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish 7' Medium Heavy Spinning Combo "
2. Weights: 1/2 ounce to 3 ounce sinkers
3. Swivels
4. Fishing line: 20lb to 65 lb test
5. Bait: Worms (great bait for smaller catfish and can be used to catch bluegill which make excellent bait for the larger catfish).
6. Hooks: Size 2 to 1/0 hooks for worms and size 3/0 to 8/0 for cut bait or live bait. I prefer circle hooks.
