Is Abercrombie and Fitch's CEO a CRIMINAL MASTERMIND?
The Barron County Sheriff's Department helped New York FBI agents arrest 71-year-old James Jacobson of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, who is at the center of an international sex trafficking indictment related to retail company Abercrombie & Fitch.
Jacobson, along with former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jefferies and his partner Matthew Smith, is charged in federal court with sex trafficking and at least 15 counts of interstate prostitution.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said his department received a call from the FBI out of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, late last week asking for their help in Jacobson's arrest Tuesday.
Officials are still working to determine how long the suspect lived in the area and what his role was there, but Fitzgerald said up until this moment he would describe Jacobson as "a normal person."
"He's been at fundraisers, at church functions, at different things. So, yeah, I think this is a big shock to our community," Fitzgerald said. "But he was a major player in this case, it appears, and he was living in our backyard."
It was Tuesday morning when Sheriff Fitzgerald said the department met with New York FBI agents and helped them take Jacobson into custody.
"It doesn't matter much money you [have], how powerful you think you are, if you do wrong, you'll get caught," he said.
