Fascinating pinfire 5.00 CTS natural black opal cabochon originating from Ethiopia. This measures approximately 12.0 x 11.5 x 7.2 mm and is cut into a round shape. Technically this would qualify as an oval, however the length is not much more than the width and appears more of a round shape.

This gem has an amazing play of color that features a "pinfire" effect. Instead of sections of color it has an almost infinite amount of tiny luminous dots that twinkle and flash with multiple tones of color. The effect is quite dazzling and appears to have practically hundreds of tiny globes of light.

The bottom of the gem and one edge is mainly devoid of color. Considering the impressive light show that most of the stone has we feel this should be more than acceptable and not of concern.

This is a naturally earth mined gemstone and has been smoke treated to enhance color. Don't be fooled by lesser imitations. this is not a doublet or filled product, this is solid earth mined stone.
