Vandana Shah shares her life journey with us, hoping to inspire us to be a winner rather than a victim and push to bring about the change we want in our lives. Sadly she lost her parents at a very young age but persevered to complete her education. Ready to begin her next phase of life, Vandana got married at 21. Unfortunately, the union wasn't what she expected, and she remembers it to have been an abusive marriage. Vandana says, "The physical scars may fade over time, but the mental scars remain." She shares an incident where her ex-husband kicked her out of the house at 2 am with nothing but the clothes on her back. This incident was the turning point in her life which made her decide to turn her life around and take action. The most important thing is to take one day at a time, find the positive in the negative, and be financially independent. Having faced hardships with her own divorce, she set up India's first support group for people going through a divorce. She firmly believes that success comes to you on your own terms, and honesty is one of the most essential qualities of a person. Her life philosophy is, "It's better to elevate yourselves than to bring down another." Vandana Shah is an award-winning author and divorce attorney who has been featured on several international and domestic media outlets, including the BBC, which made a short film on her work and has won several awards, such as the Karamvir puraskar for it. She's legal counsel with the National Commission for Women, India. She also does a lot of pro bono work to look after the down-trodden communities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
