Members from 35 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force experienced a 2-week rotation in Vanuatu as part of Operation ISLAND CHIEF and managed to take some time out to play a game of touch football with members from the Vanuatu Police Force.
Leading Aircraftman Aaron Knowles and fellow 35 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force personnel took to the field expecting a light run after working all day but were heartened to find the local Police were up for a serious full field game.
ADF support to Operation ISLAND CHIEF will include a Royal Australian Air Force C-27J Spartan, based out of Vanuatu, and a KA350 King Air, based out of Tuvalu and Kiribati, to conduct air maritime surveillance to the Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Kiribati exclusive economic zones (EEZ).
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) provided maritime surveillance support to Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Kiribati to help detect and deter illegal fishing activity in the Pacific during Operation SOLANIA 2023.
Operation SOLANIA is the ADF’s contribution to maritime surveillance within the Pacific region and supports the Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency’s (FFA) Operations RAI BALANG, TUI MOANA, ISLAND CHEIF, and KURU KURU.
During the third Operation SOLANIA for 2023, the ADF supported the FFA’s Operation ISLAND CHIEF deploying a Royal Australian Air Force C-27J Spartan aircraft to Vanuatu and a KA350 King Air aircraft to Tuvalu and Kiribati, supporting maritime protection of the exclusive economic zones of the participating nations.
