STORYLINE:
Nearly 5-thousand Tibetans from around Europe marched in Brussels on Sunday to press the European Union to reach out to China to end its repression and bring peace to their disputed homeland.
Demonstrators carrying Tibetan flags chanted "Free Tibet" and "We want justice."
One banner depicted the 107 Tibetans who since 2009 march organisers say have set themselves on fire in protest at Chinese government repression.
Protesters were calling for concrete help from the EU, including appointing a fact-finding mission and dialogue with Beijing.
"We are here to say that we are the voice of the Tibetan people who have died in Tibet and also the Tibetan people inside Tibet and outside Tibet," said protester Ztenzin Dsunsel, who was born in Tibet.
The day of the march coincided with the 54th anniversary of the failed Tibetan National Uprising Day in 1959.
Beijing, which has cracked down on those they claim instigate immolations, maintains that Tibet has been part of its territory for centuries, but many Tibetans say the region was functionally independent for much of its history.
