The explosive hazard situation in Afghanistan is an ever-worsening situation. It is a situation of protracted arm conflict and an ongoing war which cost about 10’000 civilians their lives every year. About a quarter of those civilians are dying because of landmines and explosive remnants of war.
In our series “UNTV Geneva witness“ we spoke with Patrick Fruchet from the UN Mine Action Centre for Afghanistan (UNMAS) in Kabul about the dangerous work he and his local colleagues are undertaking to clear the country from mines.
