Before birth, the female reproductive system develops in the fetus from 2 uteruses that meet in the midline and become one uterus. In some girls, this process did not completely finish and the uterus does not always form together as it was intended.
In some cases, there are 2 cervixes and two uterus (complete didelphys). Other anomalies show one cervix but 2 separate uteruses or one cervix and one half-uterus (unicornuate). Still others there is one uterus on the outside but 2 cavities on the inside. The cavities may be divided by muscle (bicornuate) or by avascular fibrous tissue (septum).
Since a septum can increase the risk of miscarriage, this is surgically repaired. Using a hysteroscope, scissors can cut the septum to create one endometrial uterine cavity. It is ultimately important to analyze your individual situation to choose the best option for you as an individual.
