Gegana Brimob, the National Police's special force which handles crimes with a high level of danger is often associated with a male profession. The force, which was formed in 1974, only installed a female police officer (polwan) in 1990, or 17 years after the force was founded.
As a woman, of course becoming a member of Gegana Brimob is not easy. Because physical training and other challenges are tougher than the police in general. Moreover, Gegana Brimob is assigned to deal with bombs, active radio, chemicals and terror resistance.
In their field assignments, Gegana Brimob policewomen are required to be able to defuse explosives, terror resistance, SAR (search and rescue), Dakhura (repel mass riots with shields and sticks) and Resmob (Mobile Investigation).
