Canadian Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault confirmed the fires that devastated Jasper National Park in Alberta over the course of a week have been extinguished on Monday.
Additionally, the federal official confirmed there are plans for a staged re-entry into the townsite, following mass evacuations. No timeline was provided, however.
The toxic fumes and smoke clinging to the air make it still unsafe for evacuees to return to their homes, or what is left of them.
Despite 30 per cent of structures in the area being destroyed, Guilbeault commended the works of emergency officials from Parks Canada.
