Cullen skink is a hearty fish and potato soup that originates from the northern Scottish fishing town of Cullen. The origin of the 'skink' part of the name is a bit baffling but it has something to do with the Scots/German/Middle Dutch words for shin/shank/ham and nothing at all to do with fish. Cullen skink is incredibly easy to make and pretty quick too. Also in this video I show you how to make an Aberdeen speciality - butteries/rowies/Scottish croissants. They are a sort of cross between a bread roll and a croissant. Butteries are frequently eaten for breakfast with jam, but they go extremely well with Cullen skink. If you've never had a buttery, try it - it's like nothing else on Earth!
