The Minstermen got back to winning ways after two defeats away from home with a tremendous win over visitors Brighton & Hove Albion at Bootham Crescent.
York had only scored one goal in the past three League games, and so manager Alan Little gave Glenn Naylor a starting place to play up front with Paul Barnes to try and increase City’s scoring potential.
When Jon McCarthy headed home Wayne Hall’s cross after only seven minutes, any doom and gloom about the previous two results had been extinguished.
The mood was lifted even further after the break when Gary Swann, who usually scored with his head, hit a low drive past Nicky Rust in the Brighton goal for York’s second.
Brighton fought back though and when Kurt Nogan went past Dean Kiely and scored, the Seagulls were very much back in the game. But, on 88 minutes, a slick passing move ended with McCarthy shooting into the net and Albion’s brave resistance had come to an end.
York City: Kiely, McMillan, Hall, Pepper, Tutill, Atkin, McCarthy, Naylor (Bushell), Barnes, Swann, Canham (Blackstone).
