Wow! despite horrific weather all over Christmas and New Year our earliest flowering Daffodil (Narcissi 'Spring Dawn') has burst into flower living up to its name and introducing a wonderful hint of spring!
We have very little space left in our garden, the roundabout just down our road is now also almost full of plants and bulbs, so we have started planting bulbs along the roadside verges too!
These Spring Dawn daffodils were planted late autumn 2021 (so have been in the ground for just over 2 years) but it is their third show of flowers, what great garden performers they are?!
Daffodils are so reliable at coming back year after year, I would expect to get at least 20 years from these bulbs, and they are likely to keep on multiplying too - in year 1 we probably only had 3 or 4 flowers but this year there are around 15 flowers or flower buds to come soon.
We plant them around the edge of the grass areas along the roadside so that they are not cut back by the spring / summer grass cutting teams; and apart from a little granular fertilizer (if I remember) there is nothing else they require and they keep on comping back - what's not to like?!
