I saw someone else's feather fletching video using fletch tape:

That video inspired me to buy a nicer fletching jig and try my hand at fletching using fletch tape. That video showed a technique where everything was lined up with just hands alone, but trying to copy their technique didn't work out for me so it lead me to develop my own which is to use a flat surface to help line everything up.
I hope this helps anyone else starting with fletching feathers for the first time. I know other people swear by glue, but I can't stand the mess and the extra time it takes for curing. Fletch tape does not work with vanes, but I'm not interested in going back to plastic vanes.
*update* - after a while of using fletching tape, I've noticed that the natural curve of the feathers will pull the tape and cause the feathers to bend and curve into their natural shape. The suggestion I've seen around forums is that putting a dab of superglue on the ends of each fletch will prevent that from happening. Either that or you have to kind of break/bend the spine of each feather to try to work out that natural curve. Definitely comment with what works for you. I'll probably stick with tape even if I do end up with some "warped" feathers on some of my arrows. It hasn't greatly affected the flight over short distances, but I'm sure it will have an impact if you're shooting long distance.
