Each year, roughly six million Americans are treated in medical clinics inside of drug stores, but that hasn't cut down on visits to the ER. Researchers found the opening of retail medical clinics nearby did not cut down on ER visits for minor ailments like respiratory infections, strep throat and ear aches. Experts say patients may be using these clinics as a substitute for a primary care doctor, rather than emergency rooms.
