STORYLINE
Protests in South Asia continued on Friday to mark the not entirely welcome visit of US President George W. Bush to the region this week.
Police in Srinagar, in India-controlled Kashmir, clashed with Muslim worshippers on Friday, as they gathered outside the city's main Jamia mosque to protest against Bush's visit to India.
Some five thousand worshippers chanted anti-American slogans, burned effigies of Bush and pelted police with stones and bricks as they emerged from Friday prayers.
Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters and the street fighting left about a dozen protesters and policemen injured, a police officer said.
There were more stone throwing clashes in the Indian city of Hyderabad, one of India's burgeoning high-tech centres, as Bush arrived in the city on the second stop of his visit to India.
Several hundred worshippers at a Charminar mosque threw rocks at police after Friday prayers, but were pushed back with plastic shields and wooden canes.
Some police officers were seen throwing rocks back at the protesters.
The officers surrounded the mosque with barbed wire and called on protesters to disperse peacefully.
Two rioters and two policemen were slightly wounded, police said.
An anti-US protest also erupted in Pakistan's capital city Islamabad, where about three hundred university students could be seen chanting anti-Bush slogans and burning an effigy of the US president.
Some carried signs that read, "Go back, go back big Satan Bush."
