Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld has admitted there are so many convincing Chanel fakes around he has trouble telling the difference between a real piece of merchandise and one that's been copied.
The 79-year-old, who's famous for his bizarre media quotes, asked a journalist this week if the jacket she was wearing was authentic Chanel, to which she responded it was.

"I thought so, I thought so," Lagerfeld replied. "It looks like [Chanel], but there are so many copies, so it could be a copy you know."
It's not the first time Lagerfeld has questioned the authenticity of a Chanel item - he caused controversy recently when he stated that Jackie Kennedy's infamous pink Chanel suit was actually a copy.
"It was a fake, a line-by-line copy by Cassini," said Lagerfeld. "She did have real Chanels, [but] her sister ordered them. We have all the proof.”
Chanel takes the issue of counterfeiting seriously, with the brand stating in 2010, "we are watching and we are taking action."
