Stomach issues are common place among runners who fuel Ultramarathons, its a natural response as the body is not tailored to digest food while blood flow is required elsewhere. However, if you suffer with gut rot on a regular basis, it may be what you're eating and time to consider real food alternatives as opposed to those sugary, refined gels.
This is me, I have struggled with gastrointestinal problems when fuelling both long runs and Ultramarathons since I can remember and they have only gotten worse since moving to a healthy, plant based diet as my body cannot process refined, manufactured food so easily anymore. This has led me to find real food alternatives for my Ultra Marathons and even natural gels for shorter distances.
