At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Anita Włodarczyk of Poland won the hammer throw event with a throw of 78.48m. Włodarczyk is the only woman to ever win the Olympic hammer throw three times in a row.

Zheng Wang of China followed in second place to take the silver medal. Bronze went to Malwina Kopron of Poland.
