Members of the Maryland General Assembly expressed excitement over starting the 2023 legislative session with a pre-COVID-19 feel. The first day of the session is largely ceremonial as legislators invite their families to the State House. There are many reunions and early horse trading. Local elected officials filled the State House hallways, all with wish lists of their own. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has an ambitious agenda that's led by public safety. He will be pushing for a state law that shortens the time when people are reported to the courts after skipping out on home detention.
