If you are just starting out in making coffee or have a desire to touch up on your skills, then learning how to recreate the Dot is a really good place to start. ‘The Dot’ is a fundamental pattern in latte art design and is used as a foundation in more expert designs such as the Heart or the Rosetta. Follow our 5-step guide below and discover how to pour textured milk creating the perfect pattern for your café favorites.
Directions:
1. Start with the jug up high and the cup tilted to create a larger surface area of the espresso.
2. Next ensure you pour a thin constant stream of microfoam to pierce the center of the crema.
3. As the cup starts to fill, place the cup more upright to stop it from spilling.
4. As you bring the tip of the jug close to the surface of the milk, a white dot will start to appear.
5. To finish the pattern, keep pouring and eventually ‘the Dot’ will start to get larger.
