Is running your favorite sets and motions actually an advantage for your opponent? 🤔
It's true that plays can provide great looks, but they also come with a level of predictability that can be a goldmine for defensive coordinators.
By sticking to a set motion, we inadvertently give the defense a blueprint of our plan, making their job of sliding and recovering too straightforward.
However, embracing a principles-based offense can change the game. In a principles-based approach, every dodge, pass, and cut is a chance to create an advantage, pushing the defense to its limits without confining our offense to a predictable pattern.
It encourages creativity and spontaneity, ensuring that we're not just running plays but crafting opportunities based on real-time affordances.
So, I encourage every coach to think beyond the playbook. By focusing on principles over strict motions, we can unlock a level of play that's as versatile as it is unpredictable, giving us every look we've ever wanted—and then some.
