In 1985, a restoration was planned for the real P.E.I. house that was the imagined home of Anne of Green Gables. And some people didn't like the proposed changes.
From Cavendish, P.E.I., where the home was located, reporter Marlene Stanton explained the origins of the controversy over the real house with an imaginary red-haired resident.
Green Gables was "a symbol of the romantic time when the character lived in Lucy Maud Montgomery's imagination" for readers of the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables.
