Windows 10 users have been using different means to enable dark mode in windows 10 even before it was officially released in July 2015. Before windows 10 preview build 14316 was released couple of weeks ago, there was no official means to enable dark theme in windows 10. You have to tweak some settings in the registry or use third party tools to activate windows 10 dark mode. Starting with windows 10 preview build 14316, you can enable dark theme in windows 10 with just few navigations within the Settings app. This feature along with other features like new start menu, extensions support in ms edge, windows ink etc that Microsoft has announced over the past couple of months, is now available to the public (regular users) after they install windows 10 anniversary update.
How to Enable Dark Theme in Windows 10 Anniversary Update
If you have already installed the new windows 10 anniversary update on your Windows Pc, you can easily activate/enable/turn on dark theme or dark mode on your computer.
Launch windows 10 Settings app. You can do so by clicking on the All settings icon in the Action center, clicking on Settings in the start menu or holding the Win + I keys.
Click on Personalization and then on Colors from the left Pane of the Personalization Settings applet.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Switch from Light to Dark under Choose your app mode option to enable dark mode in windows 10 anniversary update.
You do not need a restart to apply changes, it will do that immediately.
