Early Growth Regulation with Liner Soaks and Drenches
Soil active plant growth regulators (PGRs) can be applied to the rootballs of finished rooted liners or seedling plugs to provide growth control of those plants very early in the production cycle. Typically applied the day before transplant, the PGR rates should be selected to provide “baseline” control of plant growth. Additional PGR applications can be made later in the production cycle if necessary.
This video details experiments on the use of Piccolo 10 XC (paclobutrazol, Fine Americas, Inc., Walnut Creek, CA) as a liner soak on a variety of herbaceous perennial liners as well as the use of Concise (uniconazole, Fine Americas, Inc.) as a liner soak or liner drench. Recommendations are detailed for determining appropriate liner drench rates based on effective liner soak rates.
