Hi folks, in this before and after video, we reduce the changeover time on one of our conveyor processes. Before the change, we manually adjusted the conveyor gate to direct materials to a different channel. This 2-minute change required using tools and stopping the process while we adjusted. We added a pneumatic gate that can be adjusted with a button to solve this problem. Implementing the new process takes just 5 seconds and costs just $40. Not only is this an example of SMED thanks to the reduction in waste, but it means we no longer have to stop the machine while we adjust, making the work easier for our operator.
What is LEAN about? It’s a continuous improvement mindset that aims for excellence by simplifying processes, eliminating waste, and removing non-value-added activity.
