Israel has hinted that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) may continue to occupy Syria's tallest peak, which is located in the Golan Heights buffer zone in Syrian territory, for a longer period of time than previously thought. Israel launched a major military operation in Syria within hours of the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, razing most of the Arab nation's military infrastructure and seizing the strategically important Mount Hermon.
