It is the resort island's worst crisis since the 2002 bombings and the 2019 Mount Agung eruption. With zero tourists, Ubud icon Murni's has had to close its shops, restaurants, spa and hotel. Tandjung Sari Hotel, one of Bali's oldest, has been determined to retain staff. But most Balinese, whose livelihoods depend on tourism, are struggling.
