ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Review: Still The Most Powerful Gaming Tablet?
The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is a complete package that is more than a gaming tablet. Having used it in various scenarios and for different purposes, it's literally one of the most if not the most capable windows tablet out there. scratch that, not just windows, just tablet devices full stop.
Ok, some specs:
this ASUS ROG Flow Z13 here is rocking an Intel Iris Xe Graphics, RTX 3050 Ti, 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H, 16GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB NVMe, the display is a 13.4inch, 16:10 aspect ratio 1920 x 1200 tall display than can run up to 120Hz, over 55.6mWh battery, supports fast charge with a 100W USB C power brick. USB A, Thunderbolt 4, USB C Port, microSD card slot, xG mobile graphics card.
All that packed impressively in this small package you'd expect in a big ass laptop you have to log around in your backpack. The ASUS ROG Flow Z13's design is awesome too, it's very gamer-like without overdoing it. You have the RGB keyboard you can modify using the armoury crate and the transparent area on the back which gives you a little glimpse into its inner workings. The little red tab on the side is also very nice; it allows you to easily extend the kickstand which allows you to have it stood up or lay almost flat or if you like you can collapse it, detach the keyboard and use it as a tablet.
The Flow Z13 keyboard is great to type on, you can have it raised up or recessed but either way it gets awkward when placed on your lap and the trackpad is small and not that satisfying to click.
The Z13 display is sharp and colour accurate for any graphics work but ultimately excellent for watching movies and browsing the web. When browsing the web, you get plenty of screen space with no black bars on that 16:10 aspect ratio.
Putting its storage to the test, it operates really fast so no issues accessing and reading files to storage at all. Thanks to the 16GB of DDR 5 RAM, you can also run multiple applications comfortably and most of all, all the hard work you put through it, it stays cool, and fan noise is kept low, have a listen:
when it comes to editing 4K videos out of the A7S3, it handles it really well, scrubbing the files and even exporting them quickly after colour grading and so on. The sound quality isn't the best, but it's there if you need it, here's an example: It lacks the bass and quality so you're better off plugging into the 3.5 mm headphone port integrated. The webcam is nothing to write home about although you also get one at the back if you wanna carry a 13.4inch tablet around with you capturing moments, seriously it would be nice if the camera had a bit more oomph for things like AR mapping.
More tests and it smashes 3D and PC Mark benchmarks, staying true to its specs. It sits between a gaming PC and your office laptops, it's the benchmark for gaming tablets so it's in its own lane and this is without plugging in an external eGPU via that xG mobile port.
when it comes to gaming, loads of games run well above 60frames which is not bad at all, Cyberpunk runs best at medium settings on 30frames on average on battery and CS GO just runs like a dream with no issues at all. I'd say it definitely does what it says on the tin.
Battery life depends on what you are doing so it can go from half a day's use gaming on the go and all day use just doing some graphics work and word processing. if you really want to push it further and maximum, get the xG mobile graphics card.
I think overall, the Z Flow 13 is a tablet you can buy and use for a long time, it's got some really good specs that perform really well and is future-proof to a certain extent so you won't need to change it anytime soon. It's pricey but if you consider you will get something powerful and won't need to buy a new one anytime soon, you're fine.
