The Colombo commuter train 1154 to Veyangoda arrives at the station of Ganemulla, a small town on the main route of Sri Lanka Railways between (Colombo -) Ragama and Gampaha. Power unit S11 #895 drives the diesel multiple unit built in India at ICF - Integral Coach Factory in Chennai (formerly Madras). After the train passed, I let continue the camera to record. Sri Lanka is not like India. Unfortunately there is no traffic chaos on the street. While there is a lot of honking in India, motorcyclists like to occupy the entire width of the road, including oncoming traffic lanes, and then they plunge into the chaos and bustle, Sri Lanka remains calm and sociable. The barriers close again. I'm waiting for the opposing train coming from Yagoda, but it doesn't come. I am made aware of my mistake when hearing the horn and the loudspeaker announcements at the station. The arrival I can't record, but I can take a picture. Therefore the video makes a freeze picture, while I walk under the footbridge and photograph the East German diesel locomotive W2A #715 with the mixed train 1152 (freight train with passenger cars) to Rambukkana and present this here as the cover picture. Sri Lanka demonstrated that West and East were peacefully united in times of the Cold War. Dichte Zugfolge in Ganemulla, Sri Lanka. Der Nahverkehrszug 1154 nach Veyangoda erreicht den Bahnhof von Ganemulla, einer kleinen Stadt auf der Hauptstrecke der Sri Lanka Eisenbahnen. Triebwagen S11-895 fährt die in Indien gebaute Triebwageneinheit der S-Bahn Colombo. Nach Durchfahrt des Zuges lasse ich die Kamera laufen. Sri Lanka ist nicht Indien. Leider bleibt das Chaos auf der Straße aus. In Sri Lanka bleibt ruhig und gesittet. Niemand fährt in den Gegenverkehr, es wird kaum gehupt und niemand drängelt sich vor. Stattdessen schließen sich die Schranken erneut. Ich warte auf den Gegenzug aus Yagoda, der kommt aber nicht. Erst durch die Hupe und die Lautsprecheransagen am Bahnhof werde ich auf meinen Irrtum aufmerksam gemacht. Ich laufe unter die Fußgängerbrücke und knipse die deutsche Diesellok W2A-715 mit dem GmP 1152 (Güterzug mit Personenwagen) nach Rambukkana und stelle es hier als Titelbild vor. Sri Lanka machte es vor, West und Ost in Zeiten des kalten Krieges friedlich vereint. Während bei Henschel in Kassel in Westdeutschland die Baureihe W1 gekauft wurde, hat die Ceylon Eisenbahn gleichzeitig 1969 beim Volkseigenen Betrieb Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler“ Hennigsdorf, kurz LEW, in Ostdeutschland die Baureihe W2 geordert. Sie müssen zugeben, die gewisse Ähnlichkeit zu einer V100-Ost ist zu erkennen.
